We had a great time preparing for our share this last Friday. We voted and decided we wanted to do skits from scenes in our current read aloud, Gooseberry Park. The characters were easy to identify with, and we liked the idea of writing our own scripts to summarize some of the chapters. We even had our own hermit crab in the classroom to be Gwendolyn. We also talked about character traits and previewing a book in our share. In addition to the pictures below, a video will be posted soon. "I hope you enjoy our share!"
We are exploring the three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. Today we worked with liquids and figured out what happened to the volume and shape when it was poured from a smaller measuring cup to a larger measure cup.
*Students: What happened to the volume as it moved from the small cup to the large cup? 4th grade students performed for their fellow 3/4 classes today. They showed us what they have been learning with Mrs.W. in band and lessons. I think I speak for parents and students when I say we were very impressed. You may have inspired some of your third grade friends to get involved with band next year. Looking forward to the May concert.
Today was a very special day for our nation. Click here to read more about the important events of the day in our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. Did you watch any part of today's events?
We kicked off our fraction unit by making fraction kits. We made one whole and then 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 pieces. We have played "Cover Up" to begin to explore the concepts of the unit and to discover that there is more than one way to represent part of a whole. We have begun to learn new vocabulary as well... numerator, denominator, equivalent... We have also discovered many patterns too. As the denominator gets larger, the size of the fractional part gets __________!
Dave, a fourth grader in our class, started to take clarinet this year. He is always thinking of ways to challenge himself and he came up with the idea of composing a piece of music. With the help of Mr. Meurs, our music teacher, he composed a piece and shared it at Assembly. For the band members in the class, I have attached the sheet music if you would like to try to play it! Great work Dave!
